Aggression is an emotional impulse. It reports that a boundary, a value or a sense of status has been violated, and it becomes destructive when it is discharged without control. Bullying is a pattern of behaviour: repeated, targeted hostility against a person over a longer period, usually within a group and with a power imbalance. One is an inner state, the other a social process – and they often feed each other.
Both are treatable. Aggression can be regulated once the early warning signals and the underlying need become visible. Bullying requires a different logic: protection, documentation, alliances, and separating the attack from your own worth.
Why escalation is increasing at work
Conflicts escalate faster where pressure is high and orientation is low. People with high responsibility absorb tension for their teams until the reserve is gone. Pressure between career and family removes the recovery that normally buffers irritability. And rapid change through artificial intelligence and social transformation puts status, expertise and roles in question, which reliably increases competition and blame within teams.
This is why we never look at the outburst or the exclusion alone, but at load, recovery, role and system – the approach behind the 180 degree model.
Typical signs
Short fuse
Irritation rises within seconds, reactions are disproportionate and are regretted immediately afterwards.
Loss of control
Shouting, slamming, cutting remarks or silent contempt that damage relationships at work and at home.
Anger turned inwards
Rumination, self-reproach, tension headaches, stomach complaints and sleep problems instead of open conflict.
Being excluded
Information withheld, meetings without you, tasks removed, humour at your expense over weeks and months.
Dread of work
Sunday evening anxiety, physical symptoms before meetings, avoidance of specific people or channels.
Self-doubt after attacks
The growing conviction that the hostility is deserved, with withdrawal, shame and falling performance.

Frequently asked questions
Is aggression a disorder?
Aggression itself is a normal emotion that signals a violated boundary. It becomes a problem when the impulse can no longer be controlled, when it damages relationships or work, or when it turns inwards as self-criticism and psychosomatic symptoms. Treatment starts with the function the anger has in your system, not with a label.
What can I do if I am being bullied at work?
Document facts and dates, secure allies, and separate the conflict from your self-worth as early as possible. In parallel we stabilise sleep, concentration and mood, prepare the necessary conversations, and clarify realistic options including formal steps and, if needed, a change of role or employer.
Do you work with both sides of a conflict?
Individually, yes: we work with people who lose control of their anger and with people who are targets of hostility. In one and the same conflict we do not represent both parties, in order to keep the setting clear and trustworthy.
How quickly does anger control improve?
Most people gain noticeably better control within six to twelve sessions, because we combine early warning signals, physiological regulation and concrete alternative behaviour. Deeper causes such as long-standing devaluation or trauma need longer.
Can bullying make you ill?
Yes. Sustained hostility at work is associated with sleep disturbance, anxiety, depressive symptoms and physical complaints. That is why we treat the health consequences and the situation in parallel, rather than waiting for the conflict to resolve first.
Does this also work online?
Yes. Video sessions are well suited to anger management training, conflict preparation and follow-up, and they allow continuity when you travel or work across locations.
