What is procrastination?
Procrastination means postponing an important task again and again although you have the ability, the intention and full knowledge of the consequences. It is not a time management problem. It is primarily emotion regulation: the task produces discomfort, fear of judgement or boredom, avoidance lowers that feeling immediately, and the brain learns precisely this short-term relief.
Focus is the other side of the same coin. Concentration does not come from tension but from clear priority, sufficient recovery and an environment that makes starting easy. If one of those is missing, even a small task becomes an obstacle.
Why focus has become harder
People with high responsibility hold many open decisions at once, and every unfinished item consumes attention. Pressure between career and family removes the recovery windows in which the system would normally settle. And rapid change through artificial intelligence and social transformation keeps moving the standard by which performance is judged: what is sufficient today may look inadequate tomorrow. Under that permanent uncertainty the willingness to start at all declines.
We therefore do not look at willpower but at the whole configuration of load, recovery, expectation and environment – the logic of the 180 degree model: understand the mechanism, stabilise the system, then change direction.
Typical patterns
Avoidance through busyness
Small tasks, mail and tidying get done while the one important thing stays untouched. The day feels full and empty at the same time.
Perfectionism
The start is postponed because the result would have to be good immediately. The standard prevents exactly the outcome it demands.
Working on adrenaline
Focus only appears just before the deadline. It works for years, costs sleep and quality, and often ends in exhaustion.
Digital distraction
Constant interruption by messages and channels. Attention is sliced into fragments and deep work stops happening.
Decision backlog
Several unmade decisions block each other until every single one suddenly looks too large.
Shame and secrecy
The backlog is hidden and questions are avoided. Fear of being found out increases the avoidance further.
Who we work with
Executives
People with high responsibility whose postponed decisions slow down entire teams.
Founders and self-employed
Without external structure, sales, accounting or strategy stay undone while operational work fills every hour.
Students and doctoral candidates
Theses that have turned into a symbol of personal failure, with exam anxiety in the background.
Suspected ADHD
Lifelong patterns of distractibility, time blindness and impulsive switching that make self-help attempts fail predictably.
After overload
Returning to work after burnout or depression while concentration and stamina are still reduced.
Parents in double roles
Adults whose cognitive reserve is claimed by family and career at the same time.
How we work together
First conversation
Which tasks are stuck, for how long, and what that currently costs you professionally, financially and physically.
Assessment
Attention, mood, sleep and load are assessed in a structured way, including screening for ADHD, depression and exhaustion.
Start instead of motivation
Tasks are reduced radically, starting conditions changed, distraction limited technically, and progress made visible.
The pattern underneath
Perfectionism, fear of judgement and self-worth are addressed so that focus holds under pressure as well.

Frequently asked questions
Is procrastination a disorder?
No. Procrastination is a behaviour pattern, not a diagnosis. It becomes clinically relevant when studies, work, finances or health suffer over a long period, or when it is a symptom of ADHD, depression, an anxiety disorder or exhaustion. The assessment clarifies exactly that before we plan anything.
Why does more discipline not work?
Because procrastination is emotion regulation, not a question of willpower. The task creates discomfort, avoidance reduces that discomfort instantly, and the brain learns the short-term reward. What works is making the discomfort smaller: shrinking the first step radically, changing the starting conditions, and separating the task from your self-evaluation.
How quickly does something change?
Most people get the first stuck tasks moving again within two to three weeks, because we work on the start rather than on motivation. It becomes stable when the pattern underneath is addressed: perfectionism, fear of judgement, exhaustion or attention difficulties.
Can procrastination indicate ADHD?
Frequently, yes. If the pattern has existed since school and comes with distractibility, disorganisation, time blindness and impulsive decisions, we screen for ADHD specifically. Undiagnosed ADHD explains many failed attempts at self-help.
What is the difference from a mental block?
In procrastination you postpone the start and usually do something else. In a block you want to start and still cannot move. The two often occur together, so we work with both mechanisms.
Does it work online?
Very well. Focus work belongs where you actually work: at your own desk, with your calendar and your real tasks. For this topic video sessions are often more effective than the practice room.
