When does a conflict become a problem?
A conflict becomes a problem when it repeats in the same shape, when both sides defend more than they understand, and when consequences remain: rumination, disturbed sleep, withdrawal, irritability towards children or colleagues. The subject of the argument is then only the trigger. What works is addressing the pattern underneath: who protects what, and against what?
A separation is not a failure but a decision with consequences for the relationship, finances, housing and, if children are involved, their everyday life. It can be prepared – and preparation is exactly what reduces damage on all sides.
Why relationships are under more pressure today
People with high responsibility bring the exhaustion of the working day into a relationship in which both sides are looking for recognition. Pressure between career and family leaves little time for the conversations that would defuse conflict early. And rapid change through artificial intelligence and social transformation shifts role models, expectations about work and ideas of a good life – often at different speeds for two people.
We therefore look beyond communication at load, recovery, roles and life goals – the logic of the 180 degree model: understand the mechanism, stabilise the system, then change direction.
Typical patterns
The same argument
One theme in new packaging, with a predictable sequence and no result.
Withdrawal and silence
One side demands clarification, the other takes cover. Both end up feeling alone.
Blame and defence
Conversations tip into accusation within seconds, and old injuries arrive immediately.
Living side by side
No open conflict, but no closeness either. Logistics have replaced the relationship.
Being undecided
Months or years between staying and leaving, at a high cost to both sides.
Escalation after separating
Fights about money, housing and arrangements, often through lawyers and in front of the children.
Who we work with
Executives
People with high responsibility who decide confidently at work and feel stuck privately.
Parents

The undecided
People who need clarity about staying or leaving without being pushed either way.
Those who were left
People after a separation they did not want, dealing with hurt, fear and open questions.
Repeating patterns
Adults who see the same dynamic across several relationships and want to understand why.
Dual careers, two cities
Couples between Berlin, Zurich and elsewhere, where distance and career collide.

Frequently asked questions
When does a conflict need professional support?
When it repeats in the same form, no longer resolves by itself, and leaves consequences: rumination, poor sleep, withdrawal, falling performance or physical symptoms. At that point the issue is no longer the subject of the argument but the pattern underneath.
Is this couples therapy or individual work?
The focus is individual work: you clarify your position, your limits and your decisions. If both sides want it, joint sessions are possible; otherwise we work effectively with one side alone.
Can it help if I am still undecided?
Yes, that is the most common starting point. We separate the fear of deciding from the decision itself, define your criteria and test them against reality instead of pushing you in either direction.
What if only I am willing to work on the relationship?
One-sided change still has effects. When one person steps out of a rehearsed pattern, the dynamic shifts. That does not replace a joint decision, but it shows clearly what is possible and what is not.
How long does it take?
For a clearly defined conflict, six to fifteen sessions are often enough. With a long history, injuries from earlier relationships or an ongoing separation, we plan in stages.
Does it work online?
Yes. Video sessions are particularly practical during a separation, when housing, working hours or two cities are involved, and they provide continuity in an unstable phase.
